Markets with a Restaurant Inside - Mexican - Vallarta Supermarket

Vallarta Supermarket - Mexican Supermarket/Taqueria

Vallarta is a chain of Mexican supermarkets in Central and Southern California based in the Los Angeles area. We visited one of their two Fresno markets located at 3850 North Cedar Avenue. The store is a full-sized store with all the ingredients a Mexican or American cook would need.  http://www.vallartasupermarkets.com/en/weekly-specials/region/Fresno

Vallarta has freshly made food throughout the store including tortillas, Ceviche, salsas, sausages, and much more.

The Taqueria is located on the left side of the market. You can look at many of the dishes on the menu cooking on a steam table in front of you. You order at the counter, and the staff calls your number in Spanish and English when your order is ready.

The menu has pictures of 32 combo plates. There is an a la carta menu above the counter where you order with tacos, burritos, tortas, tamales, and many sides.

We ordered two combination dishes. Chile relleno and fried whole talapia. The combination plates come with refried beans, tortilla chips, rice, and tortillas. There is a condiment table to dress your dishes with salsa and vegetables.

Chile Relleno Platter

Condiments including hot peppers and oregano (top row), lime, radish slaw, and cooked jalapenos (next row), and raw onions, red salsa, cooked onions, and green salsa (bottom cluster).

The fish was freshly fried, which took some time, but it was worth the wait. The fish is bony so only order this if you know how to eat a whole fish. The chile relleno was made with a large fat pepper stuffed with cheese, and then breaded and fried. The portions are normal sized, and two combo plates with drinks came to $14.15.

Next to the Taqueria is a counter with traditional Mexican drinks (agua frescas) and ice cream. We ordered a Mamey, a sweet drink made with tropical mamey fruit and milk.

This is a good place to stop for lunch or dinner. If you want eggs, you can  order them any time of the day. On the way out, you have to pass the large bakery. You might have to buy something.

Panaderia (Bakery)

You could get some chips too!
