New City Chinese Cuisine is located at 1484 East Shaw Avenue in Fresno (near Fresno State). It has Dim Sum on weekends. Dim Sum is the Chinese version of a "small plate" meal, with many choices of food served in bite-sized portions on small plates (or in this case steamer baskets) rolled from table to table on carts. Dim Sum is similar to the Spanish Tapas, the Korean Banchan, the Mediterranean Meze, etc.
Three of us went for Dim Sum on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered hot tea and ten dishes. We had choices of sweet and savory dishes: dumplings both steamed and fried, meat dishes, seafood dishes, vegetable dishes, and many more, including desserts. We only chose a small portion of what they offered.
New City opens every day at 11:00 a.m. and is open until 9:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9:30 on Friday and Saturday.
The total came to $36.93 including tax.
Dim Sum dishes are available throughout the week, but need to be ordered off the regular menu and prepared.
