Today's entry is about a unique "market-restaurant," one inside a livestock market and filled with local Western art. The Livestock Cafe can be found under the Visalia Livestock Market. Located about 45 miles south of Fresno, the city of Visalia has had a booming cattle industry for decades.

The Livestock Cafe serves breakfast and lunch, Tuesday through Sunday, to the public. The busy day is Wednesday when there are cattle auctions are held upstairs.

We ordered steak and eggs with pancakes; pork steak and eggs; and coffee. The eggs were cooked as we ordered (for example, over easy). Hash-brown potatoes came with the breakfast. Breakfast can be ordered at any time.

The portions were generous. It was a true cowboy and cowgirl breakfast. The day we were there, the owner was assisted by her mother and son. The Livestock Cafe is open from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. They are closed on Mondays. If you are passing through Visalia, this is worth a stop for both a classic and unique all-American experience--and meal.
