Sam's Italian Deli and Market has been located at 2415 North First Street at the corner of Clinton Avenue in Fresno for more than 29 years: http://www.samsitaliandeli.com.
When you walk in the door, you are transported to Italy. The smells of the cheese, herbs, and sauce and the sight of the food is as close to Italy as you can come in the Central Valley of California. This is the real deal, with multiple kinds of prosciutto, spec, and deli meats, including regular and hard to find meat such as Lebanon Bologna.

We ordered a stuffed pepper, a Chicken Parmesan sandwich, and a Focaccia bread with tomatoes on top baked in store. We also had grilled marinated antipasto made with red and green peppers, mushrooms, yellow squash, and green squash.  There is a large variety of hot and cold choices including vegetarian options made to order from the wealth of deli ingredients.

For desert we decided to have some store baked cookies - "Brutti Ma Buoni" ("Ugly but Good") - Sam's Deli own hazelnut and chocolate cookie with orange zest. These were excellent. We also had a Sicilian style cannoli--fresh, sweet, and superb. The ricotta cheese inside was sweet and silky smooth with a hint of citrus.
