We continue our food truck tour while sit-down restaurants remain closed due to COVID-19. This week we feature a Fresno area Salvadoran food truck - Salvadorian Sizzle. "Salvadorian" is an alternate spelling of Salvadoran.
We ordered platanos fritos (fried plantains) served with crema, a cheese pupusa, and a combination meal with a revueltas (pork cracklings and cheese) pupusa, rice and beans.
Crema is the Central American version of French crème fraîche - not as tart as sour cream.
Pupusas are thick stuffed flatbreads from El Salvador. In El Salvador, pupasas have officially been declared the national dish.
Each pupusa came with a side of curdito. Curtido is a type of lightly fermented cabbage relish. It is typical in Salvadoran cuisine, and is usually made with cabbage, onions, carrots, oregano, and sometimes lime juice; it resembles a tart cole slaw.
Salvadorian Sizzle can be located on Instagram or Facebook. The evening we stopped, we found them in the parking lot of Tractor Supply on Herndon Avenue in northwest Fresno.
